Once again democracy prevailedin India.

Around 642 millionpeople, more than 10% of the world's population, were able to
vote after thepolls opened in mid-April, with an average turnout of around 66%
across theseven phases. Lok Sabha election Indiaset a world record.

The entire countingprocess was described as "absolutely robust," and all issues
raisedby multi-party delegations were addressed.

Over 68,000 monitoringteams and 1.5 crore polling and security personnel were
involved and over 90% of 495 complaints of Model Code of Conduct violations
disposed during elections. Some 642 million people cast their vote in the
world’slargest election, as swathes of the country was blanketed in searing
heat, making people sick and killing dozens.

India, the country of 1.4 billion people has becomethe world’s fastest-growing
major economy and a modern global power, makingstrides in technology and space.
Yet, despite these successes, poverty andyouth unemployment persist –
particularly in rural areas – and the wealth gaphas widened.

Goa: BharatiyaJanata Party (BJP) leader Shripad Naik won the North Goa Lok
Sabha seat for thesixth consecutive term on Tuesday, while Congress-led Indian
NationalDevelopmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) candidate Viriato Fernandes
succeededin retaining the party’s South Goa parliamentary seat.

Many watchdogs have categorised India as a "hybrid regime"that is neither a
full democracy nor a full autocracy.
