Dear Lucy

In addition to the material already mentioned please do check work on
migration that you could refer to on a long historical effect of climate
and Goan outward migration.

Considering how closely to nature people in India still live in today,
especially those in Goa where their livelihoods are still so dependent on
the land and sea. The recent devastation to the land created by mining in
Goa will never be restored and those affected by this will never recover.
Direct flights & package tours to Goa and the recent surge in domestic
travel to the small enclave has rendered our seas fishless!

The heatwave and continuous issues of pollution in Delhi has resulted in
the uber rich moving into deserted Goan Casas, while those with a heritage
from Goa head to Swindon in England or Aberdeen in Scotland or to other
places where the Goan diaspora find themselves, including Lisbon.

May I direct you to at least a couple of publications by 1556, a most
worthy publishing house on all issues regarding Goa.
These were only published in 2019, so not that long ago.

Goan Emigration by J.B. Pinto, one of the first books to be written in
English at the time of liberation was re-published in 2019 by 1556.

The Luso-Indian Stethoscope by Shirley L. Gonsalves, delves into some of
the complexities of migration by those from Goa. See below for a book
review below in a great publication with some good quality writing and
helpful sources and contacts for you to follow up on.

Good luck with your research.
Keep in touch
Kind wishes
Shirley Gonsalves
