When I came to London to do my Masters, I had my BEng degree from Goa University with me as a pre-requisite qualification. We were the 1991 class, the second batch after the University was formed. The first question I was asked was 'Does Goa University actually exist'? A few inquiries later, they had confirmed that it actually existed! We had fought, years earlier, against the private college scheme being planned in Goa and got lathi charged myself on this, but then we had won. All these universities, if they can be called so, will only dilute the standard of the Goa University and the reputation it now has worldwide, as private universities are mostly for those who can't get degrees by merit, so they use money instead as leverage to get the qualification job done. This means that genuine institutions like Goa University will have its certifications suspect because you can be guaranteed that among the new ones there will definitely be fake degrees, unauthorised demands for money, poor standards and the like which is bound to tarnish the reputations of the ones with some minimum standards.
