Dear Joe, The trees on the Dayanand Bandodkar Road are maintained by the Corporation of the City of Panaji. The Botanical Society of Goa [BSG] has been giving it technical support since 2003 ... for free. Branches are pruned each May and the trees are treated with fungides, etc as may be needed.
If you see trees here at all thank the BSG [including Dr. H. Y. Karapurkar, Dr. A. G. Untawale and myself who went and discussed the matter with the then CM and MLA of Panaji in his chamber, and members who came in the street], Patricia Pinto, tree lovers from all over Goa and the elections of 2002. The Conservator of Forests had issued licence to cut 37 of these Rain Trees [Enterolobium saman] The root cutting that you have noticed is the product of IFFI 2004 "development". Some trees were cut in the dead of the night. The road was handed over to GSIDC during the run-up [May to November, 2004] and the jurisdiction of GSIDC and CCP remained disputed till end 2005. If there is any specific suggestion, please let us know. it is helpful if you mention a landmark [building, etc] near which the trees are located. You can also inform the CCP [specially the supervisor Damodar Pereira] for immediate action. Mog asundi.
