(GT) THE WILDGOA NEWSLETTER: Here's the 3rd newsletter of this year. This time I have started a new section called WildGoa Q&A, where you may ask your questions & get your answers. We have more than 15 items in the Wild News section. The most disturbing news is regarding the plans for 'denotification' of 2 Wildlife Sanctuaries here in Goa by our Chief Minister. In 2002, I was lucky to participate as a volunteer in a Wild animal census in one of the sanctuaries, and I was horrified to see for myself, the destruction within, open pit mines, blasting and mining rejects all over the sanctuary, and of course, a lot of flora cut and fauna killed by the miners. Here as WildGoans, as a 300+ strong community of Flora & Fauna lovers, we must stand up and let our Chief Minister know that we do care for Goa's sanctuaries, and want to let them be as they are. Following Greenpeace's ways, let's all write protest letters and post it, fax it and mail it so that he gets the message. (Clinton.. [EMAIL PROTECTED]) POLICY ON PLACE NAMES: Any nation retains what is economically, technologically, culturally and socially beneficial to it after the end of a colonial rule. The best example is Mumbai's grand railway terminus originally named after Queen Victoria and now changed to Chhatrapati Shivaji terminus. The UNESCO has recently listed it as a world heritage monument. There was no vandalism as a reaction to this decision although the architecture of the terminus is a colonial heritage. Considering the unique position of Goa as a melting pot of cultural influences, we need to adopt a selective approach on case by case basis in changing any place names.
