What Vajpayee said is certainly provocative to some people and I don't deny
that. In fact, it is because it is a trifle provocative that he said it in
the first place knowing it would please the hardliners in his party.
Nevertheless, blinders or not, what he said is true whether we like it or
not and to only focus on it's provocative value and ignore the truth in the
statement is looking the other way as far as I am concerned.

What the Imam of Jama Masjid said was far more provocative in my opinion and
marked a sort of call for a jihad within India. I do believe that our Jihadi
clan will rise to the bait as is evident from the attack on the religious
proceedings at the Hanuman Jayanti function the day before yesterday. But I
hope and pray that the large Muslim community which I know is completely
moderate will rise to the occasion and denouce such calls.

I don't have saffron binders on Tariq. The saffronites hate my kind. I am
exactly the opposite of the model Hindu they would like with my Muslim
husband, Christian brother-in-law and total rejection of organised religion.

But I do love my nation and a call from a prominent citizen of the nation
for a civil war to disintegrate my nation hurts me a lot. Doesn't it hurt
you ?

As far as the BJP and Gujarat is concerned I think they are totally communal
and unsecular. And I do believe that the minority baiting they indulge in
more than compensates the majority baiting by the Opposition. To me the
Bajrang Dal and company are only slightly better than the Muslim jihadis
with the difference only being in the modus operandi i.e. no AK-47 rifles,
hand grenades, suicide/homicide bombers, etc. Let's hope they don't take
that path....we certainly don't need that.

I condemn the carnage in Gujarat. But I consider it on par with the violence
in Kashmir, the north east, etc. If we all did that, violence would not
occur in the first place because it would be rejected in totality.
Unfortunately, we each think of our own communities and get upset only when
our own community gets affected. If all of us take our own community
blinders off, what a wonderful world it would be.

Cheers,
Sunila
