JHA IANS [ THURSDAY, JULY 04, 2002 12:24:14 PM ] MUMBAI: Indian pop queen Alisha Chinai, who vowed never to work with composer Anu Malik and even sued him for sexual harassment, has settled her differences with him after seven years. She is cutting an album with Malik for music major Tips and has recorded a song for the film Ishq Vishq Pyar Vyar. The duo, who had created chartbusters like Ruk ruk ruk and Sexy sexy mujhe log bole, have got together at a time when many critics are questioning Malik's ability to deliver a hit score. After an astonishingly long and successful career that included hit tracks for films like Border and Refugee, Malik's score for films like Filhaal and Kuch Tum Kaho Kuch Hum Kahen has failed to strike a chord with music lovers. Alisha, whose song O my darling I love you for Rahul Sharma's soundtrack for forthcoming film Mujhse Dosti Karoge is sure to become a chartbuster, has not had too many offers to do playback for films despite her talent. What better way to recreate the magic of their Ruk ruk... days than by teaming up? Alisha, who recorded the song with Malik for Ken Ghosh's Ishq Vishq Pyar Vyar last week, told IANS: "I was very tense in the beginning. I thought it was going to get uncomfortable. But it was like the time in-between just didn't exist." "Anu went out of his way to make me feel comfortable. He was genuinely happy to see me. He was so charming. He asked me why I had quarrelled with him. "Thanks to Kumar Taurani of Tips, we've put all our differences aside. Anu is still king in the recording room. His energy level is amazing." Alisha says this time around, Malik is taking her vocals away from the sensuous mould. "The songs that I've sung for Ishq Vishq... weren't made for me. I came into the picture after the tunes were ready. I'm glad Taurani made the decision. For two years I dillydallied. But Taurani finally convinced me. "It's time to prove my versatility. Let's see if Anu and I work together. His melodies are definitely suited to my voice. I think subconsciously he believes I'm the voice most suited to his songs. "I was quite touched by his renewed faith in my voice. I think Anu has really changed for the better. I'm so relieved we're back to laughing and joking together. We couldn't work together if we continued to fret over the past." In August, she leaves for concerts in the US, Canada and Britain with singers Shaan and Jassi and will return to record her new album after the hit Alisha, for which the music had been done by Sandeep Chowta. "I'd like to team up with Sandeep Chowta again. But he just doesn't seem interested. Contrary to perceptions here, I'm not the least egotistical. I'm easy to work with as long as things are done right," she said. The buzz in the music business is that Alisha's new album for Tips will have music by Malik. "Anu told me during these times of recession in showbiz we could revive the trend towards good clean melodies. I was sure of one thing. We weren't going to do 'Sexy sexy' again," she said. Next week she shoots her new music video for the track "Sonia" for her album.
