Lawrence D'Souza gets police security after shootout By Shiv Kumar, Indo-Asian News Service Mumbai, July 5 (IANS) Police have provided protection to filmmaker Lawrence D'Souza, who was shot at by two people outside his office. Police said till further notice, two armed guards have been posted outside his residence and will guard D'Souza who was shot at by two motorcycle borne men who accosted him outside his suburban office here Thursday. Seeing his assailants, D'Souza fled inside his building and locked himself in a neighbour's house, police said Friday. Police sources said they were suspecting mobster Chotta Rajan's hand in the shootout. Rajan, who made a sensational escape from a hospital in Thailand over a year ago, is said to have returned to terrorising film producers with a vengeance. Police say Rajan, completely overshadowed by Dawood Ibrahim and Chotta Shakeel gangs, may be planning to stage a comeback in the Mumbai underworld. D'Souza, like other filmmakers, had received warnings from gangsters over the years but the threats had got insistent in the past few weeks, sources said. The filmmaker, whose recent films had flopped, is said to be planning a new big budget movie. Traditionally, mafia bosses target filmmakers when a new high profile film is being launched. Apart from cash, the dons also demand rights to release the movies in lucrative "territories".
