Congrats to those who keep trying and manage to cut thru the difficulties
to promote music in Goa, one of this state's forte for many generations.

Francis Rodriguez [phone 556387 in Vasco, email [EMAIL PROTECTED] or
[EMAIL PROTECTED]] from Nairobi, Kenya, who comes to Goa often, wrote
in to inform about Wednesday evening's annual classical guitar concert
at the Kala Academy. Said he: "We're trying to support/promote it
through the aegis of a nascent new body, the 'Goa Guitar Circle'."

It was an intersting performance (speaking as a layman here, music is not
something I'm literate in). A house-full 'black box' crowd heard a number
of youngsters perform enthusiastically.

This was organised as the annual virtuoso exhibition of budding Goan
classical guitar talent.

Forming part of the programme were Baroque, Classical,
Romantic. Solos, duets, trios, quartets, concerto arrangements, etc.,
include Bach, Carulli, Carcassi, Sor, etc., Vivaldi's guitar concerto
(guitar & violins), Nocturne de Salon (2 guitars), flamenco in ensemble.

Among those performing were Albert Barretto, Francis Almeida, Tercon Vaz,
Gary and Kirk Rodriguez. Journalists Devika Sequeira and Manohar Shetty's
younger daughter Riya and her cousin were among the youngest performers.

Kala Academy's Margarida Miranda was the chief guest. (ENDS)
