FOUR KILLED ON GOA-BOUND BUS: In a tragic mishap, a tourist bus coming from
Mumbai to Goa, skidded off the road and plunged 20 feet into a field at
Valope, six kilometers from Chiplun, killing four passengersPrabhakar S
Talashilkar, Priyanka S Talshilkar, Shankar G Sawant and Jyosna Arun Phadte
(from Mapusa)and injuring 29 others, including one critically. (GT)
SHIRODA BANDH: The bandh call given to condole the death of Succor Vaz was
total. All establishments in the villagers closed and buses to towns and
villages were cancelled. Shiroda Sarpanch Amit Shirodkar condemned the
senseless murder of Succor. (GT)
HC NOTICES TO CS, LS: Bombay High Court at Goa has issued show cause
notices to Chief Secretary Baleshwar Rai and Law Secretary VP Shetye in
connection with a contempt-of-court petition (filed by Jos Peter D'Souza)
after finding fault with the latter's statement in the appointment of
Additional Advocate General case. (GT)
GOA'S IMAGE: Realising that media headlines on militancy in J&K and Gujarat
violence were giving a bad name to tourism in Goa at the international
level, the state government has plans to participate in road shows in
Germany, France and Spain to correct the image. (H)
GOA SAFE FOR TOURISTS: British Deputy High Commission has issued fresh
travel advice on its website that Goa is generally safe for the travelers. (H)
FINE FOR PLASTIC BAN VIOLATORS: In a bid to make the ban on use and
indiscriminate littering of non-biodegradable plastic carry-bags and PET
bottles at the most frequented tourist spots in the State, more effective,
the government is now contemplating on imposing a fine against violators. (H)
NO EVIDENCE: No concrete evidence has emerged yet of the inquiry into the
mid-air collision of two Russian maritime reconnaissance aircraft of Indian
Navy near Dabolim in Goa on October 1, which killed 15 persons including 12
airmen, western naval command chief, Vice Admiral Vinod Praischa, said
yesterday. "It was definite that the two IL-38 aircraft collided but the
cause is yet to be ascertained," the Admired said.
FOOD FESTIVAL AT COLVA: Tourism Minister Mickky Pacheco has proved once
again that he is no lesser than his predecessor Joaquim Alemao by getting
the food festival celebrations down South. The festival will be held in
February 2003 at Colva. (GT)
NO SPACE AT SONSODO: The Sonsodo dumping yard is full to the brim with
garbage. There will not be space left to dump garbage at the yard from
November 30, according to a note circulated by the Municipal Chief Officer,

NO LOANS TO LAWYERS, COPS: Some of the private finance companies seem to
have lost faith in advocates, police and politicians as they have decided
not to provide financial assistance to the above three categories. It has
been specifically mentioned in their application forms not to consider the

FR AGNELO'S ANIVERSARY: "Venerable Fr Agnelo D'Souza belongs to the

HOTMIXING OF MAPUSA ROAD: The Mapusa Municipal Council has completed the
remaining work of hot-mixing the municipal roads that were pending due to
the monsoons. The MMC chairperson, Mr Michael Carrasco, said that the
pending work of these roads cost Rs.23 lakh. (NT)
WILD GOA'S CARAMBOLIM TRIP: Southern Birdwing will organise a "Wildgoa"trip
toone of Goa's hottest birdwatchingsites, namely Carambolim wetland, on 24
November. Carambolim is visited by thousands of migratory birds every year
including pintail, lesser whistling duck, garganey, comb duck, spotbilled
duck, cotton pygmy goose and other migrants. Residents that can also be
seen here include pheasant tailed and bronzewinged jacana,common coot,
indian and purple moorhen. Occasionally one can even spot storks and aquila
eagles flying over the lake. The group leader for this birdwatching trip is

AT HOME IN MUMBAI: Fortunately for the Navelim youth, when they step in
Mumbai's hectic atmosphere, they find a place to rest their feet. The Grand
Club and St Sebastian Club, are two institutions that provide the
much-needed shelter for Navelcars in Mumbai's metropolitan atmosphere.
"It's a mini-Navelim," is what Mr Jose Alvares terms these clubs situated

WOMAN WHO DEFIED MALES: Agriculture has been dominated by men since ages
and still continues to be one of the male bastion. Even studying
agriculture science has been dominated by males and the first female from
the state of Goa to make a dent in the field was Frieda Barreto, when she
joined the graduation course in agriculture at the Mysore Agriculture
College, Heball, Bangalore, in 1971. She was the first lady to pass out
from the University of Agricultural Sciences since no girl had joined the
