Dear Dr.Gilbert, There are quite a few organisations that support art and artistic talents in Goa. The fact that Goanetters have not responded does not mean that it is not there. I hoped somebody would respond ,lest I become a busy-body responding to everything on the net. For "Teens and Tunes" the present day alternative is the "Talent Touch down". It's been happening the last few years. The event is held at Kala Academy for want of a better auditorium. It is not organized by the K.A. The Fundacao Oriente is alive and kicking in Goa. I can imagine Xac rubbing his hands with colonial glee. The Fundacao does run casinos in Macau. I dare say the funds have been put to good use in Goa. The KBM is launching a Konkani Sangeet Natak Academy. We do have the Konkani Mogi group that promotes the tiatr. It is 25 years old. Today is Maestro Antonio Figueiredo's birth centenary. One hundred children presented a violin recital yesterday and will do again today at Kala Academy. One of the boys in the group is my son's classmate in Standard IV.I guess there are more boys and girls his age. The oldest in the hundred may be about 18 years of age. One hundred violinists fit to come on stage and play in unison is no mean feat. Music is alive in Goa in the 'bhangra rap"generation. There were other children who performed with the Cello, piano, guitar and even on the flute. Some played as many as three instruments. Tradition of music lives on.There is even the Goa Philharmonic. Many Goans have dipped their hands into their pockets and pulled out bank cheques that have not bounced on presentation.May their tribe increase.
Miguel ----- Original Message ----- From: "Gilbert Lawrence" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> I would assume since there was no response from the otherwise vocal native Goenkars, their answer must be in the negative to both questions. i.e. other than the Kala Academy that recognizes Goan artistic talent, we do not have a system of artistic competitions at the level of the villages and the talukas or in Mumbai as in "amchem tempar" with the "Teens and Tunes competitions". The native Goans who do not support "Goans playing the Guitar, Violin, Mandolin, Cello and Viola" either do not appreciate this music or are Pobre Fidalgos. And the phoreign Goenkars are taaaking anim taaaking anim taaaking but nat doing maach. Either way, it is time we "Goans put our money where our mouth is". We will soon be classified as 'vodlo mouth Goenkars' who talk a lot anim bolsan ath ghaluncheak poixe caddunk, bolsam soglim polkim. Many of us are living a life of 'pobreza' and 'fidalguice' and as my mother would say "Goenkar borem vodlem Xapotam sangta" (Goenchi Mhunn'nni). --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free.
