----------------------------------- Appropriate Dress Code ----------------------------------- It is always a pleasure to visit the Goan temples which are maintained well and which infuse in oneself a feeling of piety immediately as you enter the premises. This sanctity is somewhat marred by some people who visit the temples in attire which is somewhat incongruous with the prevailing religious sentiment.
These visitors seem to be tourists who possibly cannot see the difference between visiting a temple and a beach. It is therefore recommended that an appropriate dress code be evolved for all visitors to the temples. All should eschew clothes like jeans and figure-hugging attire.
In Kerala, this practise is rigorously followed. Men have to be dressed only in mundus with their upper body bared and ladies in suitable attire which does not expose their bodies. Ladies wearing skirts or jeans are required to wrap a mundu around themselves before they enter a temple.
There are small changing rooms at the entry points of the temples where mundus are rented for a nominal fee. The same thing could be instituted in Goa though we need not be as strict as the Keralites.
In older times, this dress code was enforced to show equality of all people in the eyes of God which even today is a valid point.
