------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to the FRIDAY BALCAO Read the Balcao Synopsis on the website http://www.goadesc.org/balcao/ -------------------------------------------------------
Dear Cybergaokars on GoaNet,
Friday Balcao the fortnightly discussion event to be held on 12th November will feature the topic, Erection of Mobile Towers in residential areas.
As part of a series on public interest issues Friday Balcao will focus on citizens concerns about erection of Mobile Towers in residential areas.
There has been concern expressed by citizens over the erection of Mobile Towers in residential areas in various parts of Goa. Some of the spots where these towers are sought to be erected fall in the jurisdiction of Village Panchayats and Municipal Councils.
Is there any basis for these citizens concerns ? Have the Telecom companies given full information to the local bodies like Panchayats and Municipalities ? Have these towers been cleared by the Health and Environment Protection authorities ?
Should Managements of schools and (PTA) Parent & Teachers Associations have a right to know about the impacts of Mobile Towers to be erected in their vicinity ? Do flat owners have a right to know about the levels of radiation emanating from towers installed on their building terrace ? Who is responsible to provide this information ?
What are the recommendations & guidelines of the (WHO) World Health Organization on erection of mobile towers ? Does the Goa Government require to adhere to these guidelines and issue instructions accordingly through the concerned departments ?
The Balcao discussion will cover these questions and also evolve an agenda for action by citizens.
Those citizens wanting to contribute to the discussion at Friday Balcao are urged to attend the event while those who cannot attend the event may send their views and action plan suggestions by post to FRIDAY BALCAO Post Box 78, Mapusa 403 507 or by email to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
