< The members who defect from their parent party should be disqualified irrespective of their strength. A byelection should be ordered in their respective constituencies by the Election Commission. This is the only way to get rid of defection-prone politics.>

Dear Gasparbab,

Are you suggesting that defectors be "disqualified AND barred" from recontesting in the bye election? or just disqualified..?

What if the individual has a fundamental disagreement with the direction of the party leaders.

Does he get "disqualified AND barred" in that situation too?

What if the leaders are like Salazar or Castro or Pinochet?

Do they have a right to dissent? or does the politician merely go with the flow?

And why should they resign? -It is not the politicians whom the MP/MLA represents... but the people.

Are you also suggesting that the defectors be "disqualified AND barred" from holding any paid or position of influence in the Govt? e.g. Corporations, Akademi etc?

You favourite party of the "besht CM" got past the disqualification via resignation.... remember.

The reality of the matter is that a Party in Power .....is essentially that i.e. a Party in POWER.It can even swing the vote to make an "independent" Isidore win .

The real loophole is WHO gets to disqualify WHOM and WHEN ?

What if the Speaker SITS on the disqualification process for a couple of years?

What if the Speaker himself needs to be disqualified - even for something as simple as 'Inability to count properly' ..... How did the Goa chap get to 18-6?

The sad reality Gasparbab is that Goa which for centuries was stuck with the problems of Portugal, is now stuck with the problems of India.

The main problem with politics and esp Indian politics isn't defection BUT corruption. That, my dear friend, is unlikely to change anytime soon.

Sure there is an alternative like a Third Force. But WHO exactly will vote for the Third Force? WHo knows about them. WHICH Goa Journal except Goa Observer and Gomantak is writing about the corrupt Indian politician.

And WHICH Goa Journo has given the Florianos, Francisco Colacos, Datta Naiks etc their due. And WHO knows when they will find the uncorrupted Mathanys? After all, Goans have experienced the Radharaos, the Luizinhos, the Bandodkars, Ravi Naiks and Mesquittas ...have they not?

The only WYSIWYG Goan politician is Churchill Alemao. What You See Is What You Get !

Sadly Gasparbab, Corruption, Corrupt politicians and their financiers in business are in Goa to stay.

That is possibly what those jokers mean by Liberation.

From the pot into the fire
