Uday Bhembre's " Roadmap for faster development and standardisation of Konkani Language" at XCHR on 20 October, 2005, was Dr. Willy's role in introducing MARATHI in the Official Language Act, 1987. ............................................................................ .... > : Miguel Braganza [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote > Reproduced below are the EXTRACTS of the Sahitiya Academy recognition of > Konkani, the inclusion in the 8th schedule to the Indian Constitution [ both > of which have no reference to any SCRIPT] and the Goa ,Daman, & Diu Official > language Act, 1987[ which specifically mentions DEVNAGARI script for > Konkani, NOT for English, Marathi and Gujarati, which are also part of the Act.

Bhembre, Dr. Wilfred de Souza dissuaded the late Mr. Erasmo Sequeira from presenting a draft language bill to the Government, insisting that the Goa government should come out with one on its own. However, at a Press Conference called by Dr.Willy himself, he[ Dr.Willy] released a draft language bill prepared according to the Pondicherry pattern that had accommodated French and Tamil. A Secretary to the government had allegedly made the draft available to Dr.Willy. What needs to be done now is to look at the whole language issue with hindsight and expose the wolf [fox?] in sheep skin. If Adv.Bhembre is wrong, it is for Dr. Willy to clear his name. The allegation is made in a public forum in reply to a question from Mr. Arvind Bhatikar, who shares some platforms with Adv.Bhembre like the Goan Observer, Nitoll Jinn and Lok Shakti. There may be more to it than meets the eye. The red herring of Marathi has been skilfully used by the Devanagri protagonists to deceive the Konkani activists in the past. Will Dr. Willy redeem himself ?? Viva Goa.
