Over the last few days I have walked and passed by Hill Road in Bandra (Bombay) and noticed only a couple of Christian vendors selling Christmas sweets/decorations and other items. About 98%+ of the vendors selling Christmas items are non-Christian. Is the Christian school system not promoting an entrepreneurial mindset? Do the schools encourage an employee mindset versus a employer or business person's attitude? The stakes are high. RESPONSE: George, the Bandra fair, Feast of Mount Mary's (probably the single biggest event in Bandra) has long ceased to be the domain of Christian vendors. The only Christian vendors could possibly be the florists and candle- bearers. The merchants at the fair now sell a smattering of consumer-products and other riff-raff besides the proverbial cane. Similarly, 12 months ago, I walked thru the fair at the SFX Exposition, and encountered several non-Goan vendors. On enquiring, Anthony, who drove us around, offered an explanation that the Old Goa village Panchayat was responsible for issuing permits to vendors at the fair. Don't know how accurate that is, albeit I did see something from Godfrey Gonsalves on this issue. Nevertheless, the issue is whether Christians (Mumbai) or Goans want to be vendors? India is very much a capitalist market - anybody can take up on the opportunity, when one is made available. Have yourselves a happy holiday and all the best to Goa Sudharop as they celebrate the Annual Fellowship Awards. Well done !!
