No-trust motion against Merces Sarpanch

MERCES, JAN 16 — Five panchas from Merces panchayat have moved a
no-confidence motion against newly-elected Merces Sarpanch Vishwalata
Kalangutkar.
The panchas are Girish Uskaikar, Jyoti Palekar, Sadhya Hoble,
Kamalakant Fatarpekar and Lavu Hoble.
In the no-confidence motion -- to be taken up on January 19 - the
panchas have stated that the sarpanch was not taking them into
confidence, was interfering in other wards of the panchayat and not
executing the resolutions passed by the panchayat.
It may be recalled that Vishwalata Kalangutkar was elected as sarpanch
on December 27, 2005 after Jyoti Palekar stepped down as part of the
power-sharing agreement and it has been only 19 days since she has
taken over.
Vishwalata Kalangutkar, when contacted, said that the no-confidence
motion is a fallout of her decision to support the villagers' decision
to revoke the licence granted to a private telecommunications company
for installing a high-transmission tower in the village.
The no-confidence motion will be held on January 19, at Merces VP.
