Our very observant Tony Martins has unknowingly let the cat out of the bag
by questioning why my wife and me were wished 'publicly' on our wedding
anniversary, instead of 'privately', which would have been the appropriate
thing to do.
When a politician or an aspiring politician wishes to make his intentions
clear, in an election year, he puts out large advertisements in the
newspapers with his 'supporters' wishing him and singing his glories. The
'public' wishes on GoaNet that you saw, Tony, are a cyber version of the
same thing.
Obviously Tony knows very little about the murky politics going on in the
background of GoaNet. After years of a virtual deadlock, a few crusaders,
like me, have convinced the GoaNet Admin Team to be a bit more democratic
in their approach. The Benevolent Dictator has relented and elections to
the Admin Team will finally, and for the very first time, be held in July
2006. They were initially scheduled for August but then 'preponed' because
Rene Baretto might claim it to be a Goa Day function - which it is not!!
Since none of the major coalitions was willing to give me a ticket for the
elections, I am contesting as an independent with tacit support from like
minded people. Here are a few items from my election manifesto. Suggestions
most welcome from supporters and potential voters.
## Starting with a core group every member of GoaNet has to identify other
members who they know in person. A database will be maintained with names,
addresses, phone numbers etc, as well as other details such as ethnicity,
qualifications, current employment etc. These details will only be
available to the Admin Team. New members can only be introduced by current
members. Current members who cannot be identified or vouched for by a
previously identified member will have their membership terminated. By thus
networking we will be able to ensure that people don't create fictitious
e-mail addresses and foment trouble. Also the ten thousand circulation
figure will be pruned down to a more credible number of existing
flesh-and-blood people.
## The stupid rule about maintaining the same Subject Line for a thread,
even after it no longer has relevance to the topic being discussed, will be
eliminated.
## Already we have GoaNet News, GoaNet Reader, GoaNet Matrimonials etc that
can be subscribed to separately. In keeping with this trend further
subsections of GoaNet will be created for Special Interest groups:
- People searching for long lost friends and relatives.
- People searching for life mates
- People wanting to flirt with Elisabeth Carvalho
- People who suspect Elisabeth Carvalho is actually Cecil Pinto
- People interested in receiving endless self-congratulatory letters
regarding Goa Day
- Goan American Republicans
- Goan American Democrats
- British tourists telling Goans in Goa how to live their lives
- Atheists and agnostics
- Fundamentalist Catholics
- Canadian Goans (to discuss weather and mortgages)
- People who like to forward inspirational messages
- Mario Goveia baiters
- Goans in Goa
- People searching for Konkani song lyrics
- People searching for flight and accommodation rates
- The breakaway group that hasn't broken away.
- Airport and aviation experts
- 1961 apologists
- Goans living abroad who feel non-Goans should not be allowed to buy
property in Goa
- People who only want to read Domnic's articles
- Foreigners wanting to settle in Goa
etc etc.
## Commercial postings regarding goods and services of interest to
GoaNetters to be encouraged. Uniform fees to be applied for advertisements.
The Benevolent Emperor will be disallowed from disguising advertisements as
news items to favour his friends.
## GoaNetters annual meet in Goa to a whole-day picnic sponsored by funds
collected from advertisers mentioned above.

I am still in the process of finalizing my manifesto. All suggestions most
welcome. Any suggestion accompanied by a promise of 10 votes will
immediately be included in the manifesto, even if it is contrary to other
promises. GoaNetters are encouraged to create fake e-mail addresses and
subscribe so they can then vote multiple times in this election. After I
come to power all fake IDs will be weeded out.
