Well, I was in Kuwait during the Iraqi invasion. I was staying in the
city centre (Darwaza) area, a few km from my office in Shuwaikh. I
remember an incident involving an Arab man who barged into a women's
hostel within two days of the Iraqis taking control. The whole country
was at a standstill with people remaining indoors.
The Arab claimed that he was an Iraqi and asked two young women to
follow him into a room. It so happened that the guy's skills did not
match his ambitions and he was overpowered by the two Indian women.
They tied him up and alerted a passing patrol party.
An Iraqi Captain and two soldiers came in. After exchanging a few
words with the intruder, one of the soldiers hit him in the face with
the butt of his rifle. He was actually a Kuwaiti, trying to fish in
troubled waters! The soldiers dragged him away and the next day his
body was found hanging from a crane near the city centre. A board
pinned to his body declared in Arabic: "Rapist".
This is not to say that the invading Iraqis committed no rape. But
this incident took place near the locality I was staying in. I heard
that before taking the man away, the young Captain told the women,
"You're our sisters and we'll protect you. I'm a soldier first and
then a Muslim. It's our duty to protect you!"
So we can't paint an entire army with the same brush.

I neither needed nor wanted what you had to say. My gentle questions were to
A. Veronica Fernandes who wrote an article about the 1990 invasion of Kuwait
and was present when the rapes were supposed to have taken place in Goa and
in Kuwait. I am sure he could provide an infinitely better response than
you could ever do.
