The concept of patrolling by bicycles is an innovative idea in Goa and the Vasco police will be the first to implement the system. The concept of patrolling by bicycle is not new to the Delhi police and it has helped to solve various cases related to theft during the night. The deputy superintendent of police, Vasco, Mr Dinraj Govekar and Vasco PI, Mr Sammy Tavares had put forth a proposal to grant bicycles meant for patrolling. In all eight bicycles have been sanctioned by the police headquarters. “Patrolling by bicycle will save petrol and will help bring efficiency in the police department,” stated Mr Tavares. Subsequently, patrolling by bicycles will be intensified in eight police beats. Presently there are two beats in cities and one each in New-Vaddem, Vaddem, Mangor-Hill, Dabolim, Bogmalo and Baina.
