Goa's first garbage plant likely by May

MARGAO, FEB 2 - Goa's first garbage treatment plant is finally expected
to be commissioned at the Sonsodo dumping yard around April-May this
year.
This was informed by Hyderabad-based Ms Hyquip Projects, which has
bagged the Rs 7.84 crore contract to build the plant at Sonsodo, to a
Parliamentary Standing Committee which visited the dump-yard on Friday
afternoon.
The Committee, consisting of 20 Lok Sabha MPs and 10 Rajya Sabha MPs,
were given a presentation by Hyquip's Director Moin Hussain and Reddy,
explaining the various aspects of the plant, which is based on German
Invessel technology.
The Committee members raised queries about the number of labourers and
rag pickers employed at the site for segregation work and sought to know
the time-frame for commissioning the project.
Hyquip informed the delegation that the plant and machinery is almost
ready and would be installed at the site by April-end or in May.
During the discussions, Hyquip pointed out that the plant will not only
produce compost out of waste, but takes care of waste in toto, adding
that the technology enjoys a host of advantages over incinerator and
conventional composting.
Hyquip says the Invessel technology is a proven and efficient form of
biological conversion of waste.
