On the menu: Soul Fry Casa gets our votes hands down.
What with Goan and Portuguese food so popular in the
city, this restaurant has got it just right with its
menu, décor and general feel and experience.

Home-made feni for those who would like to try and a
crusty bombil fry for all those worshippers of Bombay
duck. Another recommendation we have is the prawn
loncha that is simple superb - achari succulent and
perfect with the feni.

How much: A meal for two without the alcohol will cost
you about Rs 600 but they also have an exhaustive
thhali that comes at a slightly expensive Rs 400. This
one is for lunch only.

We think being right in the heart of Town, near
Fountain makes it a little pricey but depending on
what mood you are in, this place is easily value for
money.

Step in: Very earthy, very Goa. Colourful walls, neat
crockery and karaoke as well as great atmosphere make
this place rather comfortable. It’s cosy yet chic,
class without being intimidating and has a sort of fun
buzz about it. But because it’s still new, functioning
seems a little awkward.

Trivia: Owned by AD Singh (of Olive) and Meldan D
Cunha, this place actually has recipes that Meldan’s
mother makes. Live bands and karaoke nights once a
week are an attraction, especially as so few places
offer the latter any more. But what’s most interesting
is that if you are going to do the karaoke thing, then
you have to stand on your table and perform.

Let’s see you take up Soul Fry Casa on that! But what
you can take up the owners on, if you want, is their
claim - “The food and ambience can be experienced
either at Dona Maria Etherelda’s house in Altinho
Panjim or you come to Soul Fry Casa.”

Soul Fry Casa is at Currimji Building, MG Road, Fort.
Ph: 22671421.
