Nonagenarian Couple Live 'Exemplary' Catholic Life in Goa

PANAJI, India (UCAN): A Catholic couple in Goa who recently celebrated
their 70th wedding anniversary says that being loyal to Church
teachings has sustained the marriage.

Friends and neighbors of Basil Coutinho, 98, and his wife Timotea, 94,
say the nonagenarian couple have set an example for Catholic life in
the western Indian state.

Basil, on the other hand, says he finds nothing extraordinary in
having stayed married for 70 years. "If you have got married in the
Church (and kept) your loyalty to the Church, why should your marriage
fail?" he asked rhetorically. "I have no secret for a happy marriage,"
he declared.
