Take a romantic language, take haunting songs, take a beautiful woman with a
soothing yet powerful voice and take good musical backing. Mix them together
and you have Teresa Salgueiro singing these three Portuguese songs with the
group Madredeus.

Teresa Salgueiro is a Portuguese singer, lyricist and songwriter, lead vocalist
for the band Madredeus until 2007. Completing 25 years of her career and over
nine months from November 2010 to July 2011, she developed the concepts and
ideas crystallized into musical forms and invited António Pinheiro da Silva,
with whom she shared the first ten years of recordings and concerts of her
career, to co-produce this new album.

Throughout August 2011, she retired to the Convent of Arrábida with her
musicians and, in the surroundings of the mountain, set up a recording studio
where they record the seventeen tracks that give birth to the album O Mistério.

Madredeus was formed in 1985 playing music that combines traditional Portuguese
music with influences of modern folk. Since their lyrics are often melancholic,
involving the sea, travelling or long absences, the songs are erroneously
associated with the ‘fado’.
