ST.Rita's widow association at Chinchinim
It was founded by a lady years before she became a widow. She prefers to thrive in annonimity while practically funding its activities over the years.A widow late Mrs Beatriz Cotta appriached Fr Francis Caldeira in charge of FSC.The unit CFM engaged at Chinchinim , state National level was contacted. to serve special interests of the widows. She thus planted the seed that germinated and blossomed from 1988..The widows were socially isolated and abandoned by the families. Including biological issues. Widows had to adjust to financial,, emotional, and integration in the society.F Renato Rego, Fr Alberto Qudros then PP enthusiastically guided the movement.Meetings were conducted at the premises of Lions Club of Chinchinim. The benevolent activities were for long funded by a single family and no donations were solicited. or funds raised by any activity..The association was in charge of bordering village association too. Today WA is a shoulder to lean on and pillow to cry out their grievances having a unique platform.Th present committee wants to decrease continuous overdependence on a single family but still groops in vain. No token registration or membership fees are charged to augument the funds The limited activities are celebrating FEAST of ST. RITA. funding of limited medical bills, free annual pilgrimages at Old Goa and Pillar. The needs of widows are now into a sharp focus.Much has been done but much more needs to be done , constrained by paucity of funds. It was the first movement of its kind in Goa, which has now spread far and wide..The unit of WA of South Goa is nursed by Chinchinin unit The burden of continuing the unit is in the able hands of Mrs. Lelly da Costa , Mrs Marylene Furtado and Mrs Alba da Cunha .funding the activities by limited, personal donations. Expansion of activities is constrained by avaiability of funds and in fitness of things, voluntary donations would ease their burden hopefully supported by the Church Today 12 Nov 2022 , they mark their worthy presence by celebrating the feast of St Rita. a solemn ocassion in their itenary The widows association of Chinchinim has progressed steadily and Villagers are proud to congratulate the organisation Nelson Lopes Chinchinim
