Voters’ Choice

Elections are a gamble, this is sure,
The pain of loss one must endure.
In the end, be it wrong or right,
It is the voter’s choice—accept the fight.

Voters today are wiser, it is said,
They sift the truth from lies well spread.
Before elections, candidates promise the moon,
After victory, they vanish—far too soon.

In the realm of power, personal gain prevails,
Politics turns into employment without fails.
Fame and authority become the aim,
Disguised as service in democracy’s name.

Bribes are common to influence the vote,
Attractive offers are the standard note.
Failure to deliver brings cries and blame,
Yet fortunes grow, untouched by shame.

Candidates with professions are few,
The educated and employed have much to do.
Elected leaders feather nests, unconcerned,
Promises abound—be alert, be warned.

Elections raise status, power, and pride,
Beneficiaries shower praises far and wide.
At term’s end, the report card is zero,
Yet once again they pose as the hero.

The system breeds corruption openly,
Fed by bribes and currency steadily.
Money power and propaganda hold sway,
Reform, it seems, is kept at bay.

Voters now demand their share,
The price of victory is wages, they declare.
>From day one, plans for next polls begin,
In this game, all means are justified to win.

Voter welfare comes last after the gain,
Rosy tales and grand promises reign.
Once elections are over, voters are ignored,
Selective amnesia becomes the reward.

So when you cast your precious vote,
Know it may be the final note.
Wait till the next elections to vent your view—
The cycle repeats, despite lessons we knew.
