I should much appreciate firm evidence on both the points: a) the failed
Catholic Church promises to the Dalits,and b) promises to the so called upper
castes that their privileges would be maintained.

The problem is the Chuch also promised the "upper" castes that they
would maintain priviledges. It's like promising marriage to two
parties. Any suggestions on how to get out of this fix? FN
