fernandes to us .So also praying for his oul ,and the bereaved family to over
come their missing member .
Abrief history of Fr Sebastao fernandes
Coming from the same village and neighbourhood of the presnt bishop of goa
Aldona as once was very famous in the semenairy calender which gave most of
priest and bishops to Goa & Pakistan &missonaries around the world
Now Fr sebastao after obtaining ordination .On the same day of ordination
ie 22nd april 1949 .He was deputed to colva where even now the people who
knew him still talk about him From there he got transferred to duler no much
activity as it was only for 2 years Then to cansa tivim wher in he got the
chapel to church level and the play grond as he was lover of football.After
that he was posted to chiplem where even the mass was said in thatched hut
After getting enough funds he built a church there . Today the chiplem people
have to be grate full to this legend .Looking at his good work bishop
transfered him to Bambolim wher there was a small chapel sought off Somehow in
his tenure he completed the church
Then got his self transferred to morjim a fisherfolk and toddy tappers
village
The village was the first in goa to get candel type lights which are now
common in every church . So also the village was lacking in community hall
.Even he manage to built it even the preist did not have proper residence
facilty which he constructed &today any priest going there finds it not
difficult to adapt
From there he came to Uccassim where the church did not have proper resident
facility he got that .Then the cemetary ,and the cross where new paddy is
blessed.
Now as evvery body knew fr sebastao the parishes whenever their parish priest
went overseas they would call him
He also worked in Mapusa where he was a like a consular people getting
married From there Moira ,Corjuem ,Carona and his native village Aldona ,
From here he ended his mission and retired but only on bishops request he was
deputed to Sant Estevam wherein he was a spritual director to the boaders of
St.theresas convent
This was his last mission from where he well ill in his old age came back
home and breathed his last
Now some facts about Fr .
Once when a couple was getting married they wanted only Fr Sebaastao even
when he had a busy sechdule & they had come from all the way from colva & they
promised Fr. to even pick him up .When somebody asked them that there are so
many fathers and why would you like a old priest .When you can get young
photogenic priest even they will look good in the album
But they had only one answer if you have heard Fr.saying the mass and
preaching the sermon you would not have sai that.He woul make his mass so
lively that every body lkie him .Thats a reason he has kept an identity in
every parish.Where he was
On the eve of his golden jubilee & 80th birthday on 22nd april 1999 he was
among one of the helpers to get the chairs arrange in the hall and helping out
in the decoration.
As the Bishop was not around during his death He celebrated the months mind
in Aldona .This was his introduction to the mass that he lost not only a
neigbur but an elder brother who always had a smiling face and so also a
spritual inspireor
