GOA - UK SCHOOL STUDENTS EXCHANGE PROGRAMME

13 pupils and 2 staff members of Vidya Vikas Academy, Margao, Goa, will visit Lampton School, Hounslow, Middlesex, UK from June 9 to June 20 as part of a partnership programme entered into between the two schools which commenced with a visit by the pupils from Lampton School (UK) to Goa from February 15 to 25, 2008.

The British Council (UK) has given the two schools the DFID Global Schools Partnership Reciprocal Visit Grant. The two schools will engage in collaborative projects in the fields of environment, science, geography, care for the orphaned and the aged and culture.

It is the vision of the management of both schools to foster a healthy interaction between the staff and pupils of the two schools, give the pupils and exposure to different cultures, traditions, customs, lifestyles with a view to teaching them to respect and learn from the cultures around the world while appreciating their own culture.The staff too will have an exposure to different teaching-learning styles, resources, technology and methodology.

The interaction between the staff will bring to their classrooms modern teaching methodology and will help both schools share resources, information, teching-lwearning strategies.

Ms. Susan John (Head Teacher, Lampton) and Mr. Alan Rodrigues (Principal, Vidya Vikas Academy (ICSE) along with their Managements have given their total support to the success of this venture. Les Carswell (Dy. Head Teacher, Lampton), Ms. Punam Saini and Amandeep Channa, (Lampton Staff) and Tania D'Silva e Monteiro and Shaefali Lendhay (Vidya Vikas Academy Staff) have worked tirelessly to make the visits and educationally and culturally profitable experience and also in preparing the pupils for the visit and the projects.


Projects:

1. A Comparative Study of the Impact of Tourism & Consequent Environmental Effects in the village of Cavelsossim (Salcete, Goa) and Boxhill (UK)

2. Comparative study of Big G - a superstore in Margao, Goa and ASDA (UK) involving a study of set up, infrastucture, resources, finances, procurement sources, pricing, sales, marketing, staff, etc.


Visits:

In Goa : Spice Farm, Churches & Temples; Brewery, Traditional methods of cultivation; Pottery; Local home industry; Daddy's Home (Margao); traditional fishing; Boat Cruise - dolphin viewing, All India Radio (Interview);

In London: Buckingham Palace, the Museums, Trafalgar Square, Art Gallery, Cruise on the Thames, Asda Study, Workshop at the Globe Theatre - a Shakespeream Play - Midsummer's Nights Dream; History Walk in Central London, St. Paul's Cathedral,

In School : Science, Geography and Language classes to understand teaching-learning styles and exchange ideas-promote interaction between students; experience the use of the Inteactive White Board (Smart Board); Music Appreciation Class and Product Design Class (new for the pupils from Goa). At school, pupils will participate in the morning assembly and present cultural items.
