16-18, May 2008 http://lists.goanet.org/pipermail/goanet-goanet.org/2008-May/073789.html --------------------------------------------------------------------------- We have a very good example of how 'taking over the government' changes the people who try to change the system! There was a movement called the All Assam Students Union. In Jharkhand, a number of idealist tribal youth (some educated by the much-maligned missionaries) tried the same thing. Anyone keeping track of these movements would know how sad they turned into. Politicians didn't change the structure of the government; they got badly themselves morphed instead! The story of Mexico's "revolutionary" party is another case in point. So is the story of that 'revolutionary' country of the eighteenth century, the United States of A, today having a glorious and long record in the suppression of freedom in many parts of the world. The less said the better about the corruption of the ideals of change-seekers in other parts of the globe, including the former USSR or our commie friends now playing the capitalist card in Singrur and elsewhere in West Bengal. China too comes to mind, as they build themselves into the most effective and brutal capitalist nation under a communist skin. Some on Goanet had made light of GBA's intention to eschew party-politics. For obvious reasons... they would like it to turn in the "most obvious manner". I still think it's a good idea to have an effective opposition, that can taken on any anti-people action, rather than one that is beholden to the government or the main Opposition or even certain specific politicians.
