Recently, during my mum's illness, I was caught up with trying to get
some assistance to look after her.

At the Goa Medical College, I manage to locate an helper (there are a
series of them) who act as attendants at approx Rs 200 per half-day
shift. The lady who was caring, kind and patient was Lalita Naik (home
phone 2208657). You can also ask around to locate one.

For coping with longer-term illnesses, check out the ISEAF
home-nursing help via http://www.iseaf-info.org/ These are local
youngsters (women mostly) trained at an institute in Siolim and
nearby.

A friend whose mum has been restricted to bed for many years said he
managed to get a nurse trained by the Kerala Red Cross (approx Rs 3000
per month), but they need to be picked up from their home state.

Just thought of sharing this with you, in case anyone needs the info.
If you know of other options that work while taking care of the sick
and elderly, please share it here. Thanks! FN
