Film city - a need of the hour for Goa
NT NETWORK
PANAJI — The representatives of the Hindi, Marathi as well as Bengali film
Industry, unanimously observed that setting up of a film city - including
studios with film-related equipments, hiring facilities and post-production
technology - in Goa would not only enhance the popularity of the International
Film Festival of India, annually held in the state, but also create 500 to 600
direct jobs and employ about 4,000-odd people, indirectly.
“The government can make available land for setting up such a film city,” they
suggested.
The representatives, including film producers/ directors, studio owners and
in-charge of film institutes, who met a delegation of the Entertainment Society
of Goa, led by the Chief Secretary, Mr J P Singh, in Mumbai on August 2, also
supported launching special IFFI trains to Goa, during the film festival
period, so as to facilitate the film-related persons like junior artists
cameramen, technicians and so on, to arrive in Goa for attending the mega event.
The ESG delegation also included the CEO of the Society, Mr Manoj Srivastava,
the managing director, Mr Nikhil Desai and the governing council members, Mr
Manguirish Pai Raikar and Mr Vishal Pai Cacode.

As for setting up of the film city, the bigwigs of the three industries agreed
to participate in the public-private partnership (PPP), if the film city is to
be constructed through such an exercise, he stated.
Among those whom the delegation met included Ramesh Sippy, Shekhar Kapur,
Sudhir Mishra, Vinod Pande, Raj Tilak, Manmohan Shetty, Govind Nihalani and
Kiran Shantaram, among others.

Anjuna Citizens Forum oppose illegal constructions

NT NETWORK
MAPUSA — The Anjuna Citizens Forum (ACF), headed by Mr Gasper D’Souza is up in
arms against the Anjuna panchayat for allegedly promoting and patronising
illegal constructions and CRZ violations.
At a joint meeting between the ACF and the panchayat members held recently, the
forum members took the panchayat members to task for failing to initiate any
action against illegal constructions and CRZ violations flourishing in the
village.
Anjuna sarpanch pretending to be unaware told the members of the forum to bring
these illegalities to his notice following which he would direct the concerned
departments to initiate the necessary action.

The deputy director of health services, Dr Deepak Kabaddi along with Siolim
health officer, Dr Flavio Furtado and other health officers visited various
construction sites and fined the contractors who were working in violation of
health safety measures. Various construction sites were thoroughly checked for
water stagnation.

Sarpanch reiterates resolve to prohibit mega housing projects
NT NETWORK
MARGAO — The Colva panchayat sarpanch, Ms Suzy Fernandes on Sunday asked the
villagers to move a resolution to send a reminder to the local MLA and Tourism
Minister, Mr Francisco Pacheco seeking to amend the building laws to put an end
to the mushrooming mega housing projects in the state.

When the point of ‘mega projects’ was read out by the secretary from the last
meeting minutes, again the gram sabha members began to pose questions and the
sarpanch replied that “no mega projects” will be allowed to come up in the
village, adding that she has sent back all the files and that some of those
already submitted to the authorities have been called back.
When Mr Ceasar Fernandes asked on what grounds these projects will not be
allowed and under what grounds some files have been recalled, the sarpanch
replied that she had done this on the basis of improper infrastructure
available in the village.

The gram sabha also wanted to know why a football ground is proposed at a water
harvesting site. The sarpanch replied that the villagers have demanded a
football ground and that the previous panchayat body too was in favour of a
football ground near the water harvesting site.

The villagers also told the sarpanch that the panchayat should buy the official
government gazatte and keep themselves updated and not wait for government
authorities to send them letters, instructing the panchayat about some
procedures or actions. This is time wasting, as government takes pretty long
time to communicate in writing, the villagers said.

I am a bold Chief Minister: Digambar
By ABDUL RAUF BEIG
Principal Correspondent
PANAJI In an exclusive interview with The Navhind Times he said initially when
he took over, people had been saying that he would not be able to take hard
decisions but he has proved them wrong by taking some of the hardest decisions
on issues like scrapping special economic zones, Regional Plan etc.
As regards to frequent attacks by the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party against
him on trivial issues he said that he would like to leave that question to the
opposition party and the people to judge about the allegations made against him
and the motives behind them.

Replying to a question on inclusion of Mr Atanasio Monserrate in is cabinet, he
said that certain decisions that were vital were taken by the top brass of the
party and that the issue relating to inclusion of Mr Monserrate into the
cabinet was one among them. The issue is under consideration of the party and
that the decision would be conveyed to him in due course of time and
implemented soon thereafter
