The resolutions passed at the rally are old-hat.

The real statement that was made came from the sight of buses, jeeps and
other vehicles with number plates from Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala and
Andhra Pradesh, sporting saffron flags that came streaming in to attend the
rally. They were mainly packed with men. Also the number of swamis and
Hindutva leaders from outsde the state making their presence felt. These
people broadcasted the message that they are ready to come to Goa to take
action. Against whom?

Remember the issue basically involves local 'ghumptis' or shrines in remote
areas being vandalised, acts which have been very widely condemned by all.
Most suspect that this is an attempt to whip up communal hysteria ahead of
the elections.

The Times of India reports Shankaracharya Shree Vidyanarmishmabharathi
Swami stated that,"Hindus ... should only support those candidates who are
willing to provide Hindus their support." Prudent Media showed Hindu Jan
Jagruti convenor openly appealing to people to vote for the B.J.P. Prudent
also reported that besides the B.J.P. no leader of any other political
party was present at the rally.

Another significant statement made by Swami Brahmeshanand of Goa reports
T.O.I. was that Hindus should work towards strengthening temples. As shown
on T.V. statements on these lines were repeated by others. If my
understanding of the code is correct, what this means is that the temple is
now to overtly be a political rallying point.
