Talking photos: Mitta Agor (Salt Pans) Salt and salt pans near Curca, Goa-Velha (Goa-Velha –Curca Road)
Salt Pan locally known as ‘Mitta Agor’ Mitt koxem toyar zata? (how salt is formed) (As I remember it from my school) They take sea (salty) water in this small small compartments called ‘pans’ Water then stored there till it get evaporated by the hot sun What’s remained behind is the raw/wet salt which is pulled up or collected to one corner of the span. Little by little, the collected or gathered wet salt forms a hip or pyramid which after draining or drying turns into pure white crystal salt ( as can be seen in the pics) Ready salt, pans with its corners http://www.flickr.com/photos/joegoauk18/3486225537/sizes/l/ Pans with wet salt in it http://www.flickr.com/photos/joegoauk18/3492470636/sizes/l/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/joegoauk18/3491652615/sizes/l/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/joegoauk18/3491651589/sizes/l/ People at work – gathering/collecing raw salt, forming of pyramids/hips http://www.flickr.com/photos/joegoauk18/3491650637/sizes/l/ Salt ready for sale http://www.flickr.com/photos/joegoauk18/3486226701/sizes/l/ Usually sold by tins (about 10kg?)
