Let me agree at least for argument's sake with those who want to
control migration. and say,"Yes it would be nice if 'outsiders' did
not come here and make us feel uncomfortable in our own land." But
both legally and practically is there anything to be done about this?

Legally this situation should have been foreseen in 1961. Now can
anyone stop anyone from coming to Goa? To create a Kashmir type of
situation in Goa, where at the very least, 'outsiders' cannot buy land
freely, the Lok Sabha will have to pass this Bill. Can you imagine
such a Bill being allowed to be passed where increasingly 'Outsiders'
have begun investing in real estate??

Besides, how exactly does one solve the practical problems that our
very own Goans have created by making themselves the Outsiders of
England, America, Canada, Australia, Barbados and many many countries
in Africa and Europe and the Middle East? Not to mention other parts
of India.

Everyone from fitters to welders to electricians to traders to cooks
to nurses to doctors to engineers - name the profession - and
excellent craftsmen and professionals of Goan origin, are to be found
in these countries. They are doing excellent jobs there. They are
well paid.

But what has happened in Goa?? When I have work, I prefer to employ a
Goan. But if I want a Goan electrician, fridge mechanic, mason,
carpenter, unskilled labourer ... there just aren't enough Goans to
be found. And nowadays, forget about Goans, I find it difficult to
get 'Outside' labour. Nature abhors a vacuum. And those migrants are
filling it.

I'm ready to agree with you that migrants are distasteful people, but
without them how will we live?

Augusto
