FN, I think the point Cecil is trying to make is that Goanet is a messy place today.
To give you an example, once upon a time, the moderators rejected posts claiming some posts were only 'flame bait." Then "flame bait" became part and parcel of Goanet. Now even the moderators admit that they are posting "flame bait." Surely you can see that we are progressing in the wrong direction? A second anomaly here is that there supposedly is a rule that people cannot use false ID's on Goanet. Even when it is clearly shown to the moderators that certain ID's are false, the moderators insist on allowing these false ID's to post here. The result? Most people do not have the time to defend themselves from people posting under false ID's and as such, avoid posting here. Take a look at all the quality posts that appear on Goanet today. They are all copy and paste articles that have first appeared on other nets/services. Instead of providing the environment that encourages members to post original thoughts/experiences, Goanet has morphed into the this uncontrollable beast where rules are only for some. For example, at times my posts appear on Goanet in a few minutes. At other times, it takes up to two days (and sometimes a reminder from me) before my post makes it on Goanet. It seems to me that certain posts are 'held" by the moderators before they are 'allowed' onto Goanet. This defeats the purpose of any internet group. In brief, Goanet is at the situation where a) rules that are public are not enforced and b) rules that we are not aware of, are enforced. In my view, Goanet is part of everyone who posts to it, and who contributes to it! Of course, those who are seen as being more active contributors, adding value to the list, would be seen as playing a slightly bigger role. Which is why people like JoeGoaUK and (earlier and now again) Domnic of Anjuna, and a whole lot of others have been acknowledged for their contribution. I don't think you'd manage a rift between Herman and me with this suggestion, because I key acknowledge his role as founder and Chair, and also that of everyone else who has been a volunteer, admin or moderator on Goanet at different points of time.
