Just needed to know whether it is accurate to translate a 'khandi'
(the old Goan system of measuring field areas) to "roughly 4000 square
metres"?

Does anyone have any pointers that could tell us about the old system
of measurement in place here earlier? I remember the 'pailies' and
'podhs' used to measure small quantities of grain, before the metric
system became the unavoidable (by law) standard.

Of course, fish is still not sold by kilos in Goa, and eggs come by
the dozen :-) FN
