Just needed to know whether it is accurate to translate a 'khandi' (the old Goan system of measuring field areas) to "roughly 4000 square metres"?
Does anyone have any pointers that could tell us about the old system of measurement in place here earlier? I remember the 'pailies' and 'podhs' used to measure small quantities of grain, before the metric system became the unavoidable (by law) standard. Of course, fish is still not sold by kilos in Goa, and eggs come by the dozen :-) FN -- Frederick Noronha :: +91-832-2409490 Writing, editing, alt.publishing, photography, journalism Books from Goa: http://tiny.cc/goabooks
