Hi all, I have been off the net for a while, and upon reading a few of your comments was pleasantly surprised that this request seems to have taken off. Mr. Tavares (not Alfred) pointed out vandor, which I now remember my Dad (both he and Grandpa were born in Mumbai). My mother used makodd. I believe the correct spelling is makodd/mankodd. Thanks Dominic, Blasio, JoeGoaUK, and anyone who may have responded, considering that I have not read all Goanet.
This query originated when a friends young daughter who knows a smattering of words in many languages said she knew the word for monkey in Konknni -- dudhu/duddhu/dudu. Now we know the words for money (incl. poixea) in Konknni, as well as for milk. I pointed her towards makodd, but she insisted that dudu had to be one; at which point I send out that email from her fathers office, with her looking over my shoulder. Perhaps there is a word, and I wanted to give her that benefit, with the collective force of Goanet behind it. Further to the above: The interest in dissecting Konknni words may be helpful if we are inclined in looking at say some of the collective Konknni words, for example, measuring vessels -- gunnati, arnatti/annatti, natti, and so forth. Let me get back and I will post. Heads up to anyone who wishes to start a post on the same -- ordho pod, pod, kudov, handi, etc., and as they deviate into other uniquely singular meaures. Feel free t o correct if in error. venantius j pinto
