In recent years, I have experienced special grace at immigration counters.
Much
of the old hostility to the "foreigner" was a by-product of cold war politics
and resentment, which was fed further by Russian propaganda and the
Nehru-Indira
Congress fueled class hate/warfare.
I think India now appreciates the world 'a la Singapore,' and the West has
extended it's own welcome to bodies and groups that were once closed clubs and
sectarian guilds.
Nations are entitled to their rules and regulations. Civil staff cannot be
hampered by a plane load of travellers with their individual ideas of norms and
legalese - a prescription for anarchy.

I think this is a case of xhiclolo bruto. The professor apparently has not
followed the ghandian principle : "when you arrive from overseas please bribe
your countryman".
