Dear Arwin, Your questions are very good.
One thing I can guarantee is that Goans did not agree to anything. There were no questions asked to Goans. There was no option in 1961. NO OPTION. And that is why it was not a liberation. It would have been if they had given us the options. But they did not. I have been saying this for years and years. How people call it a liberation is beyond my comprehension. The Supreme Court of India calls the events of December 1961 an act of conquest from the Indian Union. According to the Supreme Court of India, Goa is conquered territory. Date of conquest = 19 Dec 1961. This is the reality. These are the facts: We were conquered in 1510 by Portugal. We were conquered again in 1961 by the Indian Union. That is the reality. Please do some research and you will find the facts. Only those ignorant Goans amongst us still call it a liberation when the Supreme Court of India itself calls it an Act of Conquest. What an insult to us Goans. How can a Goan even continue to call it liberation after checking the facts??? The guys from Delhi laugh at us when we Goans call it a liberation. They called it a police action as though there was any legitimacy in the act. Anyway, the truth has always been there for those who want to find out. Most of us Goans are in denial and refuse to accept the truth. It is indeed an insult to accept that we have been conquered all over again. Think about it. But it is the truth. In black and white. Whether we like it or not. Thankfully, slowly, many of us are trying to understand the reality as of late. It does not mean that something needs to change now politically. However, we must understand the truth in order to work for the future. A future based on falsehood cannot be a good future. So, it is never late to search the truth and find the facts. Better late than never. That is what I have to say. I no longer want to celebrate the latter; because with every passing day, it looks more like the Liberation of Goa from the Goans; rather than from the Portuguese. With all
