Marion:

Being a Goan does not mean being Catholic. Catholics were never a majority in Goa, even during pre 1961 times when the Portuguese were here. Let us not be communal and leave aside the majority community of Hindus in Goa. They too are very much Goan and many of them love Goa maybe more than you or I do! Fanaticism should never be accepted, and it will lead to everyone’s downfall. If you want to increase the percentage of Catholics in Goa, well maybe you should set out on a mission of evangelisation instead.

Incidentally, besides Catholics and Hindus, there are also Moslems and people of other religions or sects in Goa. And all these communities live in harmony with one another, unlike the case of other places in India.

Incidentally, Bollywood depicts Bombay Catholics, not Goans as drunkards etc., and the reasons are quite obvious. Sadly, many mistake the drunks in Bollywood films as Goans. However, there may be an exception here and there.

It would be nice if you could elaborate on your actual agenda which could then lead to a proper plan of action. Let us not just jump the gun.

Regards

Salus

30% Catholics ! All the more to worry about as we will soon be a displaced community of people who will neither belong in India nor abroad !

Hence my urgent request that we do something about it sooner rather than later.

Unless of course we are quite happy to have our future belong to either Hindu or Muslim !

Other communities thru Bollywood have adopted our culture but not our religion as our Catholic culture is very free spirited. So there already is some engagement there. We need to give ourselves this last push to do something to increase the %.

Marketing a product or service brings results. This can also be extended to our culture both Catholic and being a Goan. Yes if it means bringing about an awareness to the Hindu Goans about the impact of the deterioration of Goa - then YES !!!
