Comments : Camilo Fernandes in response to Joegoauk's below post that Goans
who acquired Portuguese passport should not be allowed to Goa.

These so called freedom fighters are a joke and a disgrace. All they want to
do is somehow be in the limelight in whatever way they can. If they are really
serious about Goa and love Goa, then they should tackle the present serious
issues like corrupt politicians, mega builders, mining, destruction of
greenlands and fields, garbage, filth etc. and not dwell on the past about
Portuguese rule. Why are they silent on the raping and destruction that is
taking place in Goa right under their noses. They have nothing better to do
and their only aim is get their pensions and other benefits. India and
Portugal have diplomatic relations and are friendly countries. They dream that
Goa is owned and ruled by them, forgetting there is the Indian Government.
They seem to be taking law into their own hands by being against Portugal for
flimsy reasons. . They are just hypocrites and if a survey is made about
their own family members/relations, I am sure many have discreetly opted for
Portuguese citizenships and are enjoying the fruits in Europe. Their protest
amd strong objection to the arrival of Portuguese navy's ship NRP Sagres in
November 2010 was just a farce and a stunt to gain publicity and the Goan
fishermen rebuffed their protests by giving the Portuguese ship Sagres and its
crew a fond and affectionate farewell. The association members talk about "
certain local politicians and bureaucrats for having soft corner for the
Portuguese". Why are they silent and not protesting about politicians who
are in love with corrupt builders, mine owners and are in hand and glove in
destroying and raping our beautiful Goa. They are just dreamers and can see
only the past and are blind to the present. They are just indifferent to the
destruction of Goa.

Close two Portuguese institutes or face action: Freedom fighters
Goan freedom fighters have threatened to hit the streets in protest if the
Government
fails to shut down Portuguese establishments, which they consider is aiming at
dividing the people of Goa.
Goa Freedom Fighters Association (GFFA) President Naguesh Karmali told
reporters
that if need arises they would visit Delhi pressing for their demands and
subsequently ensure that the Portuguese Consulate in Goa stops functioning.
?We want that Portuguese establishments, mainly Fundacao Oriente and Institute
Camoes are shut. Their existence is only to create pro-Portuguese lobby in Goa
and
split Goans. If the (Union) government fails to meet our demands, we will not
allow the Portuguese Consulate to function here,? Karmali said.
The bitter reaction ensued following an interview of the Ambassador of Portugal
to
India Roza de Oliveira to an English daily, that he is still not able to
understand what
Goan freedom fighters want from Portugal. He was also quoted saying that Goans
have forgiven Portugal.
The association members said that Portugal have no business to speak about Goa,
as memories of their barbaric rule has still not faded away.
?We strongly object to the Portuguese and Goa relations. We need to read in
between the lines. They are still proud for having colonized Goa for 451
years,?
he said adding that they do not object Goans learning Portuguese language
provided
they don?t forget their roots.
GFFA treasurer and veteran freedom fighter Prabhakar Sinari has demanded a
Central level probe into the working of the Portuguese establishments in the
State.
To another issue that several Goans opt for Portuguese citizenship, the
association
has said that they should not be allowed to Goa anymore.
?They have lost their nationalities. They are no more Goans. They can come to
Goa
but alike foreign tourists on ?six months tourist visa,? Sinari said.
They recalled how the association members raised strong objection to the
arrival of Portuguese navy?s ship NRP Sagres in November 2010, which was to
commemorate
500 years of arrival of Vasco-da-Gama in Goa.
The association members have further criticized certain local politicians and
bureaucrats for having soft corner for the Portuguese.
