I read the write up....but what I'm wondering is who the hypocrites really are? The educated people of panjim including Educated Dr. Oscar Rebello at the time of elections will be standing aside Don Manohar Parrikar. I am also wondering why is it that channels like Goa 365 dont have the guts to ask the right questions to Manohar. Are we afraid of Parrikar or RSS or both or sashikala? Who are the hypocrites?
Secondly I thought for a while that Konkani was the mother tongue....where the hell are all these "marathi" people coming from fighting for their status? Marathi is not even a goan language but a maharashtrian language!!! Remember Goans you are being taken for a ride by Parrikar & his band of thieves, these people want to rule goans and as long as goans remain illiterate, you won't be able to read the constitution of India!! And these BJP / RSS / Parrikar type of people can rule over you. ViVa Goa, Viva Education, Viva Konkani .......and Go to Hell "Marathi" !! warm regards, For Alpha & Omega Consultancy, Adrian Simoes Sr. Consultant - ISO Systems -----Original Message----- From: goanet-boun...@lists.goanet.org [mailto:goanet-boun...@lists.goanet.org] On Behalf Of goanet-requ...@lists.goanet.org Sent: Monday, June 27, 2011 2:50 PM To: goanet@lists.goanet.org Subject: Goanet Digest, Vol 6, Issue 605 Send Goanet mailing list submissions to goanet@lists.goanet.org To subscribe or unsubscribe via the World Wide Web, visit http://lists.goanet.org/listinfo.cgi/goanet-goanet.org or, via email, send a message with subject or body 'help' to goanet-requ...@lists.goanet.org You can reach the person managing the list at goanet-ow...@lists.goanet.org When replying, please edit your Subject line so it is more specific than "Re: Contents of Goanet digest..." It was a massive show of strength on Sunday. It was a spontaneous expression of solidarity for rebuilding the stadium which was razed by the then Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar in 2004 with the promise to rebuild it in 18 months. Parrikar, who is the capital city MLA, but could not rebuild it as his government collapsed, himself made his presence felt and inaugurated the mega event which saw two ladies team also participating, if only to reiterate the message in clear tone, that come what may, the Government will have to give Ponjekars its stadium. Parrikar assured football players and fans that football was Goa?s first love and he would give his full backing to ensure that the stadium would be rebuilt. He also expressed his hope, that most of the cabinet ministers, being football lovers, would support such a demand. CCP Mayor Yatin Parekh, Arjuna awardee, ex-international Brahmanand Sancoalcar, Henry Brito of Academica fame and a hosts of national and state footballers descended at the open ground with the sole goal of lending their support for a genuine cause. The wafer-thin opposition was nowhere to be seen. The organisers ? Dr Rufino Monteiro, CCP Corporator Surendra Furtado, Joaquim Teles, Sandeep Heble, Hillary Fernandes, Manoj Patil, Anju Albuquqrque, Anagha Warlikar ? stood vindicated as it was a purely democratic expression by the stakeholders. ?We have suffered all these years and now the time has come to act. Plans are already there in place. We need to pass the message in loud and clear terms to Chief Minister Digambar Kamat and if need be, even to Speaker Pratapsing Rane, who is the Chairman of Kala Academy. Both are former sportsmen and lovers of sports and surely they will be on the side of youth. We know they will respect the sentiments of sportsmen and sportslovers, as they strongly believe in democracy,? they said. Results of the five-a-side tie-breaker: Winners ? Mangor Tommy of Vasco (Rs 4000). Runners-up ? SFX Mala, Panjim (Rs 3000). Third place Dempo Tigers, Altinho (Rs 2000). Fourth place ? Keunem Boys, Taleigao. Best goalkeeper Nikhil of Mangor. Best striker Ali Mohammed of Dempo Tigers. Best youngest player Hartem Rebello. Best senior player Hillary Fernandes. Dempo College of Commerce, Mira Mar, Cross 7 Caranzalem, Auxilium High School Caranzalem and Young Boys of Kevrem were awarded Rs 1000 each. There were 56 teams from Panjim itself, 24 teams from Taleigao and Dona Paola, 12 from St. Cruz and Merces and the others from nearby areas. Many city schools also made their presence felt with some schools like Don Bosco, Panjim fielding as many as four teams. The tournamment was conducted by Selvyn Fernandes , Anthony Vaz, Angelo Albuquerque and Eurico Mascarenhas. Organizing secretary Sandeep Heble proposed the vote of thanks. Bembre are being educated in English primary schools Mr Parikar finds that educating his son in USA is better than corresponding opportunities in India Mr Batikar finds that running a primary education is much more profitable It is clear that these are hypocrites , who are out to thrust their wisdom on the children of other parents. Their own sons and daughters have the freedom to choose, but the same privilege is not available, to the other parents These staunch supporters of regional languages were in hibernation at the spread of unaided English medium primary schools, without raising a finger of protest and which fact has spurred the present movement. These schools have created a vertical divide in the society between those who can afford and others who have to take what they get. There is no formal training of regional language teachers, evaluation of the standards of teaching, difficulty of the taught, evaluation of the teaching material and yet these so called pseudo educationists are crying fowl. Why do we need to encourage Kanada and Urdu medium primary schools in Goa without reciprocal arrangements for Goans in those states, Do we have any arrangement for Konkani language teaching anywhere outside Goa and specially in Maharashtra, where there is sizable Goan population? Are we fighting openly to propagate Konkani the regional language and official state language, or trying to promote Marahti , state language of Maharashtra?. A popular daily has opened up its space for dissent, that is ludicrous for a man of letters and which has been bashed and refuted to expose the double talk and tear the mask of hypocrisy It is said Physician should heal himself first and do not attempt to make others guinea pigs of pedagogical experiments It would be more sensible to withdraw in dignity rather than rationalising in a escape route of self defense that sounds hollow and unworthy. The respect and admiration people had for these individuals of integrity and character has evaporated, because they do not command respect of their own immediate family members The devanagri script has made the situation worse, as the religious scriptures are in Romi form . It appears that the state language Konkani is the sole responsibility of Minority Schools If Konani and Marathi is made compulsory up to std X, how the learning and preservation will be diminished? Language is not the sole repository of culture. Remember for a moment that without formal teaching and learning Konkani it has survived and spread for over 450 years of determined persecution. None of todays votaries of regional languages had any say or part in this process. 20 years of English medium Primary schools and another 20 years in Konkani medium has not not upset the apple cart of Goan culture What steps have been taken to implement the official language act? What other steps have been taken to promote regional languages? Politicians are simply agitating to revive their sagging political careers and fortunes. Only time will tell that stamping upon peoples right to choose will impact adversely and you will live to rue the roost. CSJP has urged the people to take a serious look at the culture of alcohol and drugs that is engulfing the state in leaps and bounds and advised the government to impose measures to curb the sale of alcohol and enforce the law to bring to book those who in an intoxicated state endanger the lives of citizens and disturb the peace in the family and society. It also wanted existing de-addiction centres to be well equipped and manned by highly motivated and adequately qualified staff. Admitting that the government has been enacting various laws for the welfare of the woman and the child, it has criticised its failure to impose sufficient curbs on drug trade and on the consumption of alcohol in particular, arguing that this has been the cause of trauma for several homes in Goa's villages. "It is most unfortunate that taking the cover of tourism, the government has been promoting intoxicants and in the process promoting an unhealthy culture, not only among tourists who visit the state but also among the local population," said the executive secretary, CSJP, Fr Maverick Fernandes. "Abuse of alcohol and drugs besides affecting the performance of the individuals in the productive age group has also been destroying the peace and health of the family members and society at large. The rising number of road accidents, drowning on beaches and anti-social activity resulting from alcohol and drug abuse is earning a bad name for the state and is also making life for the ordinary citizen difficult and insecure," CSJP said, and argued that the rising number of alcohol abusers among Goa's labour force has been causing concern for the employers. "The high incidence of young widows in several talukas of Goa caused due to death of their spouses from alcohol abuse is a blot on our society," it has mentioned. "It is a matter of shame that government supported agencies instead of promoting healthy lifestyles are involved in promoting the consumption of alcohol thereby setting a wrong example to the younger generation and while the alcohol trade has been flourishing in Goa the responsibility of providing sufficient support systems for recovery of those afflicted by addiction to these substances has been overlooked both by the government and industry that profits from this trade," it has observed. http://www.navhindtimes.in/goa-news/csjp-voices-concern-over-rampant-abuse-d rugs ------------------------------ Message: 5 Date: Mon, 27 Jun 2011 11:08:08 +0400 From: Freddy Fernandes <ffernandes....@emaar.ae> To: <goanet@lists.goanet.org> Subject: [Goanet] Protect And Preserve Our Resources Message-ID: <92b00f6d84d6c743b7fdc0fb16d8bd930181f...@emaarntex1.emaar.ae> Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Protect And Preserve Our Resources Till the mid seventies most of the villages in hinterland and coastal Goa were self sufficient in terms of water, even though there was no tap water, the wells, springs and streams did more than enough to sustain the water requirements of these villages with limited families and their farm animals. As years went by, families expanded and resources shrunk, with the degradation of our ecology and environment through mining. Soon after mega housing in rural villages put a tremendous strain on this precious resource and it turned sparse. Wells, streams and springs started turning dry. With the commissioning of the Selaulim Project people of South Goa heaved a sigh of relief pipelines and taps appeared all over south Goa but the fantasy did not last long as running water in the taps became a novelty and as such a new scene appeared on the horizon in Goa, train like lines of people with utensils waiting to fill water near every tap. Government after government since then have been promising 24x7x365 days running water in the taps but have miserably failed to fulfill that promise, as a result of which even bigger lines are appearing near every tap. Most of the bathrooms in flats in the cities are found to be full of empty drums kept for storing water, sometimes no water for days at a stretch. With the population of Goa rising from around 11 lakhs in 1980 to around 16 lakhs today, water consumption has out-paced it source and with mega projects flourishing, with the blessings of our politicians it is going to be a tall ask to meet the needs of the people of Goa. Even than our politicians leave no stone unturned to release hot air from their lungs promising Goans the unattainable and we gullible Goans even clap and say hurrah, every time such empty promises are pompously and theatrically made. To stop the situation from getting even more shoddier the government should immediately without any delay protect our water resources and tap the untapped sources and stop open cast mining, the government should also put a blanket ban on all mega projects till such time that we get our water supply and our other infrastructural requirements on track. The first priority should be that people all over Goa get at least 3-4 hours of continues running water, then slowly increasing systematically the time period till the ultimate 24x7x365 is attained. When we all know that 24x7x365 is impossible at the present times why go for it, let's take one step at a time, slow and steady wins the race. Fast results are deemed to fail in the long run. Our Government should make all efforts to see that our resources are not wasted by unconcerned citizens, so I also suggest that the government, issues a directive of minimum water and power consumption per connection after due study of an average household in an average house, and that minimum consumption should be charged at a reasonable rate, consumption above the minimum should be charged at a higher rate and another higher level to be exorbitantly charged, to refrain people from wasteful consumption and wastage. It is said that to be effective you have to "hit where it hurts" and hitting the pockets is bound to hurt the wasteful consumer, only then will people realize the value of conserving our energy and water resources. It is said that only a person who is lost in the desert knows the true value of water, so let's not wait to get lost in the desert but all pledge to preserve and protect our resources, so that they last a wee bit longer. Garlic has long enjoyed the reputation of a wonder food because of its unmatched health benefits. Garlic belongs to the onion family and has been used since centuries for both taste and health. The garlic plant's flowers - bulb made up of numerous sections called cloves - are strong and spicy in flavour and become milder on cooking. Garlic contains complex compounds including amino acids like arginine, glutaminic, aspartic, valine & lysine; minerals like calcium, manganese, potassium, iron, zinc, copper, sodium and phosphorus; vitamin C & B6; niacin; folic acid; allicin; quercetin; sugars like fructose and glucose and other essential oils with sulphur containing components like diallyl disulphide and allyl tri-sulphide. Health benefits of garlic Prevents cardiac disease: Cardiac diseases are associated with various parameters including high level of blood cholesterol, blood pressure and blood sugar. The allicin present in garlic breaks down to form sulphides, which together with vitamin B6 and vitamin C form the excellent antioxidants. These work especially well in water-soluble areas of the body like the blood stream. The oxidised form of LDL (bad cholesterol) works in damaging blood vessels. Garlic has proved to inhibit the growth of oxidised LDL and increase the level of HDL (good cholesterol), thereby reducing the risk of heart stroke. Moreover it reduces the formation of plaque on the walls of heart vessels. Half a teaspoon of crushed raw garlic taken before going to bed proves beneficial instead of taking a 600 mg tablet. Studies also reveal that garlic has properties to increase insulin in the body thereby reducing the blood sugar level. Garlic also reduces blood pressure by blocking the angiotensin activity that triggers blood pressure levels. Fights against cancer: Crushing garlic leads to the formation of compounds like diallyl disulphide and allyl tri-sulphide, which is why consuming it in its crushed form is highly recommended. These compounds work to fight against breast, stomach, bladder and prostate cancer. Garlic obstructs the development of cancerous cells, thereby slowing down the growth of tumour. It has been noticed that sulphur compounds commonly called ajoenes found in garlic are known for their anti-tumour qualities and can reduce the size of tumour by almost 50%. A strong immune system is a key to fighting against cancer and garlic helps to develop a strong immune system. Improves immunity: Garlic has anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and anti-viral properties. The allium present in garlic helps in controlling infections caused because of bacteria, fungi and viruses. Garlic helps to fight common cold. Studies reveal that crushed garlic can inhibit the growth of infectious bacteria in burn patients and also on open and bleeding wounds. Garlic provides relief from intestinal infections caused by infectious worms, thereby boosting the immunity. Good for pregnant women:Healthy nutrients found in garlic are highly beneficial for pregnant women. The immunity boosting qualities of garlic can help women stay away from infections caused by bacteria, virus and fungi. Moreover, garlic has proved to be effective in increasing the weight of the child during pregnancy. Pre-eclampsia is a situation in which blood pressure increases, resulting in excessive release of protein in the urine. Garlic is a diuretic and can increase the flow of urine in pregnant women which in turn expels toxic substance from the human body and helps to reduce the risk of developing pre-eclampsia. It should be noted however, that excessive garlic is not recommended during pregnancies, as it causes thinning of the blood, which may lead to bleeding. The problem with garlic The biggest problem with garlic is it's strong smell, that causes bad breath and body odour. One tip to reduce bad breath caused by garlic is to consume it with milk. Also, cooked garlic has a significantly lesser smell than raw garlic. Pointing out that the government is preparing to spend Rs. 10,000 crore on the Karwar naval base expansion, he said the Goa government should demand that the naval training centre be shifted to Karwar and this shift be made a part of the expansion programme. He said that shifting of the training centre to Karwar will pave way for returning the Dabolim airport to civilian authority as it was prior to Goa?s liberation by the Indian Armed Forces in Operation Vijay. ?The Dabolim airport was seized by the Indian Armed Forces during Operation Vijay and has remained in its custody as war booty since then,? he said adding that now was the time to demand it back to the civilian authority as a Golden Jubilee gift to Goa by the forces that liberated it. He also pointed out that the Indian Armed Forces have sizeable land in Goa in its possession which is nearly 10 per cent of the total area in Goa. The expansion of Karwar Naval Base is undertaken to act as a check to the proposed construction of a naval base at Gwadar in Pakistan by China which will give Pakistan direct access to the Gulf region. http://www.targetgoa.com/newsd-With-Karwar-base-expanding-Navy-must-shift-ou t-of-Goa-says-Mathany-2557 -- DEV BOREM KORUM Gabe Menezes. ------------------------------ Message: 10 Date: Mon, 27 Jun 2011 01:36:40 -0700 (PDT) From: Nascy Caldeira <nascy...@yahoo.com.au> To: "Goa's premiere mailing list, estb. 1994!" <goanet@lists.goanet.org>, "goa...@goanet.org" <goa...@goanet.org> Subject: Re: [Goanet] FROM FEB 2005 TO MAY 2011 GOA'S ADVOCATE GENERAL PAID RS 5, 13, 11, 750 Message-ID: <942510.99866...@web160804.mail.bf1.yahoo.com> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=utf-8 dear Aires, ? The Law department has informed under the Right to Information Act that the amount paid to? Advocate General Subodh Kantak is by way of his professional fees, retainership and other allowances. The amount excludes the period form 5th March 2005 to 15th June 2005 when Goa was under President?s rule and Senior Counsel Mario Bruto da Costa was appointed the Advocate General. The highest amount paid to Advocate General Subodh Kantak was for March 2007 when Mr. Subodh Kantak got a whopping 19 Lakhs 60 thousand by way of professional fees. Mr. Subodh Kantak who is not even a Senior Counsel is India?s highest paid Advocate General. The Advocate Generals of Maharastra, Karnataka and Gujarat on the average are never paid more that Rs 50,000 a month. Advocate Generals in other States only appear in constitutional and important matters, but? Mr. Subodh Kantak is appearing in all sorts of matters just because he is paid Rs 8000/- every time he stands up in the High Court. Advocate General Subodh Kantak who was earlier being paid on an average over Rs 10 lakhs a month is now getting? upto Rs. 5 lakhs a month.but the same needs to be further lowered as in other States. It is very evident that Chief Minister Digambar Kamat is not serious on his assurance that the Goa AG?s fees would be brought down on par with the neighboring states.
