You are mistaken when you assume that 'pasteis de nata' are not made any more
in Portugal.
'Pasteleria de Belem' turns out about ten thousand per day to sell in their
cafe as well as for distribution.
I have had them in a Portuguese cafe in Baker St. London as well in a
restaurant somewhere in Knightsbridge.
We have them here in Sydney, being distributed by a portuguese bakery to
supermarkets.
There are imitations made by various others, climbing on the bandwagon of their
popularity,
but only the ones that know the 'secret' succeed.
