Dear Goanetters and Debashree, Just off the phone from a chat with Dr Pramod Kale of Pune. He noticed your (Debashree's) work on Clare Mendonca, the film-critic of the 1930s and 1940s and was wondering if she would have written anything on the Hindi-Marathi film Kumkum (splg?). Incidentally, Dr Kale said this film had a team of Goan (Bombay Goan?) musicians playing some of the music.
Dr Kale is an interesting person himself. I first got to know him because of a lengthy (and academic, but interesting) piece on the Goan tiatr he wrote in the Economic and Political Weekly. His father, K. Narayan Kale, was one of the prominent members of the Prabhat Talkies, one of the early film companies that resettled from Kolhapur to Pune (if I got it right) and went on to influence Marathi cinema and drama and more. In fact, Dr Kale still lives at Prabhat Lane in Pune! If anyone knows anything more on this, please share. Dr Kale is a senior citizen and prefers to use the phone for communication rather than email. So please understand...
