Subject: [Goanet] On Manohar Parrikar's memorandum for Special Status
To Goanet -
My first reaction: a day late and a dollar short. Goa's death warrant was
signed
in 1961 when it joined the Indian Union without any protections. Indians
have
ruined every haven in the country. It is just that they got to Goa last.
That said, I applaud Manohar-bab for this effort, assuming it is sincere and
assuming
it will be pursued to the end. Many of the points made in the memo are
strong and
well crafted (I don't like the supplicating tone. Indians deserve no
courtesy. And
enough of these Indian uncles and behenjis in Goa. Find some other place to
muck up, fellas.)
The key question is: why is Manohar Parrikar winking at the megaprojects
ongoing RIGHT NOW?
It is in direct opposition to the words in his memo. Put another way,
Parrikar's words
DO NOT MATCH his actions. The Modys and other outsiders can come in here and
lord it over.
Another pertinent question: is this Special Status talk a smokescreen to
deflect attention
from Mopa and mollify opposition to the airport project?
Sorry to be cynical but the record thus far prompts such cynicism.
