Mr. Nelson Lopes has covered most of the points concerning food security bill that is rushed in the parliament for its approval.
Whatever is the outcome of this bill in the parliament; most people are calling this bill as 'Congress Party's Own Security Bill (Food Scam)' in name of food for all poor people.' U. G. Many states like Chhattisgarh, Tamil Nadu etc .have in place such an arrangement of distribution of subsidised grains and the Central Govt could well draw from their experience. The public distribution should have been stream lined and put in place for such an exercise on a massive scale The BJP with its amendments is an attempt to delay or not be seen as opposing it and so all other parties for the impact it can have on their political fortunes in the next General election. UPA II is capitalising on their dilemma to gain undue mileage as the saviour of the below poverty Indians The food has been rotting in godowns and is unfit for human or animal consumption and yet the Govt does not consider this wastage. The doles by way of cheap grain are going to have cascading effect on the economy. No budgetary provision is made. From where is the Govt going to fund such financial support. The prices of all essential commodities have touched the roof and with increase in gas, petrol, fertilizers, vegetables and onions the burden is unbearable on aam admi. God forbid if there is drought or poor harvest, the food will have to be imported at great cost to the exchequer Rupee has already hit rock bottom with reference to the dollar, which means imports will be a drain There should have been massive investments and incentives for agricultural production, which is most discouraging; Farmers are committing suicides, unable to pay the loans NREGA is not an employment generation scheme by providing one member of the family employment for a fixed number of days The food security bill is good on the idea, but low on implementation with respect to distribution, leakages and proper identification, survey of the target population All pros and cons should be debated thread bare by taking all the parties on board before launching the programme The rush is only a political gimmick to divert the attention of uncontrolled inflation into a tailspin Heavens will not fall if the bill is delayed by one year Nelson Lopes Chinchinim
