LET'S MAKE BUSINESS IN KONKANI: The president of the 23rd session of the 
All-India Konkani Parishad, Mr Tanaji Halarnakar, has called upon the Konkani 
society to be ever ready to accept the material challenge of the third 
millennium, thereby conscious of studying every facet of modernization. He 
emphasised that the Konkani people will have to strive to make Konkani 
potentially strong in order to make it a language of business of the third

KHALAP TOO ON HIS WAY OUT? Will the Law Minister, Mr Ramakant Khalap, be the 
next minister to quit from the cabinet and party? Indications of this became 
clear on Saturday when his supporters from Mandrem and Pernem visited his 
residence at Mapusa and urged him to leave the BJP. (H) 

MAHAJAN CONFABULATES WITH RAVI, KHALAP: The Parliamentary Affairs Minister, 
Mr Pramod Mahajan, yesterday air-dashed to Goa on an unscheduled visit to 
resolve the crisis which gripped the state Bharatiya Janata Party over the 
distribution of party tickets. Party sources confide that serious differences 
have cropped up between the old guard and new entrants. Two names specially 
making rounds in the party circles were of the Deputy CM, Mr Ravi Naik, and 
the Law Minister, Mr Ramakant Khalap. (NT)

ROW OVER INDUSTRIAL WASTES: The villagers from Colvale, Madel-Tivim and 
surrounding areas have demanded an immediate joint inspection by the 
concerned authorities to stop the dumping of industrial waste at the Colvale

ODI FIASCO: The four Goa Cricket Association officials accused for 
endangering lives on the day of the April 6 ODI cricket match have prayed 
before Judicial Magistrate First Class, Margao, to recall the process and 
discharge or acquit them from the case. (H)

ANIL SALGAOCAR TO CONTEST? Industrialist Anil Salgaocar seems keen to contest 
the forthcoming assembly elections from Sanvordem constituency. He has been 
in the news from the time "River Princess" ran aground off Sinquerim coast in

FATE OF EX-MLAS: AICC observer Pradhyut Guha reiterated that all the four 
former members-Jose Philip D'Souza, Sanjay Bandekar, Arecio D'Souza and 
Isidore Fernandes-have expressed their desire to join the Congress

UGDP FOR UNIFICATION OF REGIONAL PARTIES: The United Goans Democratic Party 
is again trying to consolidate its position in the Goa Assembly by forging an 
alliance with like minded parties during the elections fixed on 30 May. The 
UGDP, which came into existence prior to 1994 polls, won three seats after 
fielding candidates in 21 Assembly segments. (WE-GT)

NAGARIK SAMITI CANDIDATES: Nagarik Samiti have decided to field candidates in 
the coming assembly election in Mormugao, Vasco and Cortalim constituencies.

'SENSITIVE' POLL STATIONS: South Goa has identified a total of 36 polling 
stations as sensitive, including 13 hyper-sensitive ones. (H)

ANTI-SOCIAL ELEMENTS: The South Goa district police has shortlisted about 61 
persons hailing from different constituencies as "anti-social" elements. (H)

ROAD DEATHS: A woman from Bendwada-Sanguem died on the spot while another was 
seriously injured, after a speeding truck ran over the two women, barely 100 
metres away from their houses. A person traveling in a mini-truck laden with 
bricks, was crushed to death after the vehicle rammed against the rear of 
stationary bus at Panzorcone-Cuncolim. A motorcyclist from Talsai-Dharbandora 
died in a road mishap at Pale on Thursday. A 25-year-old woman from 
Dharbandora-Sanguem died as she was proceeding to her sister's house at 
Guleli-Sattari. (H)

CUSTODY OF DACOITS: More then a week has passed since the police in Margao 
have taken the custody of two alleged dacoits from Andhra Pradesh police in 
Hyderabad, but have failed to detect any of the dacoity cases committed in 
Goa. (WE-GT)

WATER SHORTAGE IN DIVAR: Divar may be surrounded by water, but residents of 
the island are faced with erratic water supply for over a month. Residents 
have to depend on water supplied through the pipeline, as the wells have gone 
dry. (H)

ARPORA-NAGOA LACK POSTAL FACILITIES: The residents of Arpora-Nagoa villages 
have expressed their dissatisfaction as the upgradation of the outpost office 
situated in the Arpora-Nagoa village panchayat building has been delayed. (NT)

EXPORT OF ORNAMENTAL PLANTS: Cosme Pharma Limited, a unit of Cosme Group of 
Companies, released their first export consignment of ornamental plants 
recently. The company bagged an export order for ornamental plants from a 
USA-based biotechnology firm and entered into an agreement on regular 
exports. (H)

WEBSITE OF RURAL BAZAR: the website of Rural Bazar Goa was launched by the 
Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Parrikar, at the District Rural Development 
Agency, Panaji, in an endeavour to provide an avenue for the Goan artisans to 
present their traditional and cultural arts and crafts to the world community 
over the Internet. (NT)

CANSAULIM HEADMASTER FELICITATED: The headmaster of St Thomas High School, 
Cansaulim, Mr Oscar Gonsalves, was felicitated by the chairman of the 
Sancoale Super School Complex, Mr Subhash Naik, at a special function 
organised by the school complex recently for his outstanding contribution in 
the field of education as well as for his work towards the school complex
