DEMOCRACY HAS BROUGHT LOWER CASTES TO FORE: After Liberation, there was an
upsurge of the lower castes against the dominant castes. But this happened
more in the Hindu community than in the Christian community. The MGP took
up the cause of the 'bahujan samaj', the masses. That was how the caste
element came into politics. It was a sort of outburst of a pent-up hatred
the oppressed castes had for the upper castes who were with the rulers. The
MGP emerged as the single largest party. (Olivinho Gomes, Acting
vice-chancellor of the Goa University, in Reflections/Panorama-Sunday NT)

RISE AND FALL OF PORTUGUESE EMPIRE-1: At no time in her long and chequered
history did India dream of an overseas empire for her
self-aggrandizement--as was the case with Portugal, Great Britain, France,
Spain and the Dutch--but she earnestly strove to stimulate world interest
in her civilization and in the products of her commerce and industry. From
the most ancient times downwards, all nations have directed their wishes

Leadership Cultural Park on Tinian island, from where were flown the atomic
