MAUVIN CLAIMS CHARGESHEET IS POLITICALLY MOTIVATED: former Power minister and main accused in the multi-crore power scam, Mauvin Godinho, quoted scriptures while issuing a blunt and naked threat to Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar for falsely implicating him in the power scam and the disproportionate assets case. Prof Armando Menezes was born in San Mathias, Divar, on May 11, 1902, and was a teacher of English for nearly half a century. (NT) GOA'S SOCIO-ECONOMIC INDICATORS: Goa has a very high literacy, including female literacy. Nationally, it has the highest per-capita income, the highest per capita bank deposit, the lowest level of poverty. Its camaraderie and integrity has made Goa the prominent favoured destination for both foreign and domestic tourists. On the liabilities side, the rate of growth shows signs of decline. Water is in short supply unemployment is increasing, productivity in agriculture, fisheries, horticulture is declining; pollution and environmental degradation are adversely affecting the scenic and pristine assets, the fiscal deficit is increasing, the quality of education shows signs of deterioration and there is a serious gap between literacy and education. Just prior to announcing assembly election date police incharges were reshuffled and PI Bossuet D'Silva of Maina-Curtorim was replaced by PI Uday Naik, who was posted at Curchorem. Sources at the south Goa police district headquarters inform that the 36-year-old Naik was under a lot of stress since his posting.
